How costly is drifting?

Author: Mike Daniels  //  Category: Drift Racing

I am interesting on building a drift car to drift race competitively. I am curious how much the car will cost as well as the tires I will need to replace every time I go.

It will get costly.

You can easily buy a good drift car, like a 240SX or AE86, for cheap. Gut the interior. I suggest a rollcage, seatbelt harness (4 point or more). A lot of people do motor swaps for better motors, which costs more than $1000. More power, more money.

Tires, you’ll be going through them like delicious Krispy Kreme donuts. And good drift tires don’t come cheap. Street tires are expensive enough, but real drift tires are hard compound tires which are expensive.

Also, take into account any possible accidents you may be involved.

I have friends who want to drift, but we’re not made of money like the drift nuts are. IT’S VERY COSTLY.
