How long does your 1 year old nap during the day?
Author: Mike Daniels // Category: Formula DriftMy daughter has been sleeping from 9am-11am and again from 1:30-3:30pm. It is lovely… I get so much time to myself. She used to be such a bad napper, only sleeping for 25 min at a time.
I would just like to compare sleep habits to Moms of other 1 year olds. How long goes your baby sleep during the day and at night as well? Are they still waking through the night or do they sleep through?
Avary is almost 13 months old and goes to sleep in her crib at 9 PM. She’s gotten pretty wonderful about going right to sleep. She knows whe I lay her down it’s sleepy time. I watch her on the monitor and sometimes she will lay there, quietly talking to herself or petting her "Leo" (AKA: Lamby) until she drifts off to sleep. It’s great because now if she cries or wakes up fussy I know there is something wrong because it is not the norm. She’s been teething lately (eye teeth and molars) so when she wakes up at 11:00 or midnight crying, I know why – which is a big comfort. There is nothing worse than your baby crying in the middle of the night and not knowing what’s wrong. I’m sure you agree.
Anyway, a little off the subject there. When I go to bed, usually between midnight and 3 AM, I bring her a bottle of warm milk or formula or mixture (sometimes if I feel she didn’t eat well during the day and needs the extra nutrients I’ll give her a formula bottle instead of plain whole milk to make up for it). I transfer her to my bed since we have always coslept and I give her her bottle, she drifts back off to sleep in my arms – it’s wonderful. She will usually sleep until about 8 AM.
Her first nap is at around 11:00 or noon then she usually takes a second around 5 PM. How long she sleeps at both naps varies pretty widely. Sometimes she will sleep for 45 minutes while other times she will sleep for 3 hours! Usually she takes the longer naps when she is going through a growth spurt. It usually coincides with when she is eating like a horse, LOL!
I know I gave you lots of extra info but your answer is in there too, LOL!

At night he sleeps from 8pm- 8 am. And then has a nap from 10 am – 1pm. Which is a wonderful change from him waking up every 30 mins.

Jana is 13 months. She usually takes a nap in the morning a couple of hours after she gets up. The first one usually lasts anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour.
She takes another nap in the afternoon-That one lasts a bit longer, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
She still wakes at night. She’s just recently started sleeping much longer though-Most nights she sleeps from 7:30pm to 4am.

Hunter goes down once a day.
Either around 10:30 am till 1pm or at 1 pm until 3:30
When he was a year old he was taking two naps a day. Both at those times. He would sleep about 1.5 – 2 hours.

Everyday is different for us. He’s 17mths and starting to give up his 1st nap. Some days he’ll go down at 10 and sleep until 12. Other days he’ll stay awake until 1 and only sleep until 2. He sleeps great at night and has since he was 5mths. He’s just never been a great napper. My sis in-law has twins that are 3 and sleep from 1 to 4. I wish I was so lucky.

Poppy goes to bed at 7.30 and is asleep by 8. She wakes at midnight and gets into our bed (we part time co-sleep) where she’ll stay until 5am when it’s ‘wakey wakey time’ in Poppy world. She then has a bottle and we get up until 7am. At 7am, she goes back to bed until 8am, sometimes 8.30am when we then get up and have breakfast and properly start the day – I don’t count this sleep as a nap, more of a continuation of her nights sleep. She then naps between 11am and 12/12.30pm and again between 3/3.30pm and 4.30pm.
My Husband thinks she naps too much because we literally have two or three hours max between naps which at times can make doing things very hard (my Daughter will only nap at home or in her car seat in the car, not her pram/stroller) but I love the time that I have to get things done. I also love that she loves to nap/sleep so much because it makes her a much happier baby than she was for the first 6 months of her life when all she did was scream and stay awake.
I have a feeling she is going to start cutting her afternoon nap out or perhaps making it shorter because I am finding it harder and harder to settle her down for her nap and when she does sleep, its sometimes only for 30/40 minutes.

My 12-month old usually takes 2 naps during the day – a nap in the morning anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour, and then another nap in the afternoon that lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. At night, she sometimes sleeps through the night, but most of the time she wakes up once for a bottle, and then is back out within 20 minutes.

My son will be 1 on Tuesday. He was always a cat napper and would only sleep for half an hour at a time, several times a day. I understand your frustration – just when you start to do something, they’re up again! He now sleeps from about 10-11.30am and again from 3.30-4.30. Brilliant! He goes to bed about 7.30pm and wakes at about 6.30am but because we co-sleep he just lays in bed talking to himself and playing with his teddies until I wake up, and we usually get up about 7am.

Around 12 months, I was still getting 2 sleeps a day out of Juliette. She usually went down around 10am-11am and then again around 2-3pm. I was generally only getting an hour each time. Now she has dropped one sleep, I gradually stretched out the morning sleep time till 11am and now noon after her lunch before she went down. Because she was much more tired by then she refused to go down for an afternoon sleep. So she would make up for it at the midday sleep and I now get about 2hrs out of her, sometimes 3 if she has been unwell. Generally she goes down at night around 7-7:30pm, 1st in line before her sisters. She usually wakes around 7am in the morning, sometimes later, 730am if she doesn’t have to get up to go to daycare that day. She loves her sleep ins though!! She often wakes just once a night. Depending on her cry, I will leave her and she goes back to sleep after having a chat to herself when she realizes I’m not coming in. She has a spill proof cup in her cot that I’m sure she gropes around in the dark for and by morning that drink is always empty! Depending like I said on her cry, if she sounds in pain, I may go in and see if she is alright but I never turn the lights on or talk to her, I just check her, straighten her up in the cot, cover her back up and turn her little music star back on and leave, closing the door behind me to muffle her chatter when she doesn’t cry. Generally this is enough to reassure her that it’s okay to go back to sleep, mummy is there. Sometimes not and she will have a whinge and cry for sometimes an hour or more. At that point I may resort to giving her a dose of paracetamol, usually within 20mins of doing that, she’s back to sleep. I always try not to pick her up at night, turn any lights on or talk to her as I don’t want to stimulate her at all. Night time is for sleeping and I try my best to make that clear to her. Good luck with your little one sweetie, glad to hear that part of her sleeps are improving for you and I hope the night sleep improves too. xxx

Mum to 3 girls: 5 year old (took 4 years to sleep through the night due to her special needs and a child psycologist), 3 year old (sleeps through anything and always has since she was a baby) and a 19 month old (sleeps through most nights especially when she’s not teething!)
